The marine product museum is located within the Lu Xun Park in Qingdao. It is the only museum primarily for breeding and exhibiting marine life in the country. Presently it includes the aquarium, the exhibition hall, the South Pole hall, the fresh water fish hall and the rare and precious protection animal exhibition hall. The aquarium was initiated and started in 1931 by progressive personages like Cai Yuanpei, Yang Xingfu, and Li Shizeng. The first marine life laboratory was located here.
Upon entering the aquarium, one feels as if arriving at the wonderful crystal palace. Each type of seafood and fishes, shellfish, shrimp crabs and so on that lives in the water unfold its presence in front of the tourists¡¯ eyes. The design of the aquarium is quite unique. Every big glass pool was beset on the four walls of the exhibition hall, with windows on the back, with natural and soothing lighting for saving on the energy to make one feel more comfortable. Dozens of kinds of fish are raised here, dissimilar in shape and form; at the same time various marine life specimens are displayed. Qingdao marine product museum gathers wonderful underwater treasure and demonstrates the sea breeding myriad things in its science exhibition. Tourists obtained rich oceanography knowledge while touring the place. In the South Pole hall, there is an enclosed exhibition hall which simulates the South Pole climate conditions and exhibits South Pole¡¯s sea fish, algae as well as South Pole penguin¡¯s specimen which the South Pole inspection team brought back.
